Overview

The purpose is to require owners and/or operators of air contamination sources to obtain a permit from the department for the operation of such sources. Types of activities range from stationary combustion sources, to incinerators, to industrial process, exhaust, or ventilation systems.

Application Processing Comments: Initial processing time is between 90 to 180 days.
Common Denial Reasons: Insufficient information; Application fails to satisfy the standards for permit contained in regulations.

Additional Info

1. A pre-application conference is recommended.
2. Permit applications can be rejected by the agency without being approved or disapproved.
3. The agency has an appeal process for a denied application.
4. Permit/License must be posted.

Renewals and Amendments

  • Renewal Information: To renew an existing permit, fill out the Air Permit Application and check the box for renewals.
  • Amendment Information: For any significant modification, minor modification, or an administrative amendment to an existing permit, fill out the Air Permit Application. Check the box for the type of amendment. Note that minor modifications, significant modifications, and administrative amendments to Title V permits are defined in 6 NYCRR Part 201-6.6(c). Modifications to state facility permits are defined in 6 NYCRR Part 201-5.4.
